Green Bay — For the first time, the Green Bay Packers are going to see what their defense looks like with a pair of traditional 3-4 linebackers on the outside.

The only problem is that both players are rookies.

Rookie Brad Jones is extremely fast as an OLB and reminds many of a poor-man's DeMarcus Ware. He gets his first shot Sunday afternoon with Ware on the other side of the field.

Starting left outside linebacker Aaron Kampman missed another day of practice due to a concussion he received last week, and from coach Mike McCarthy’s comments Thursday, it appears unlikely Kampman will be cleared to play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

With Kampman out, seventh-round pick Brad Jones, a rookie outside linebacker who played in a 3-4 scheme at Colorado, appears to be the choice to replace him. Unlike Kampman, who is making the transition from 4-3 end to 3-4 linebacker, Jones has a natural feel for the position.

First-round pick Clay Matthews has been a hit at right outside linebacker, but that doesn’t mean that Jones has what it takes to fill Kampman’s spot. Still, with veteran Brady Poppinga suffering swelling in his thigh, Jones appears a better option than Jeremy Thompson, another converted end.

“I think I bring a lot of everything,” Jones said . “I think I do a lot of things well. I think I can rush the passer pretty well. I think I can stop the run, too.”

Jones was not a prolific sack man at Colorado, totaling just two his senior year. But the position Jones will be playing requires covering running backs, receivers and tight ends on passing plays and that’s where his speed and agility should benefit him.
