~Philadelphia — Outside of a loss, about the worst thing that can happen to a team in an opening game is to sustain serious injuries to key personnel.

The Green Bay Packers avoided any devastating injuries in their 27-20 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field, but they do have some issues to work through.

Grant, who hasn't missed a start since becoming the featured back in November 2007, wasn't sure if he could be ready next week. "For me, if you look at my track record, I would say yes," he said. "But we'll take it one day at a time.

While defensive end Justin Harrell (knee) appears lost for the season, and Cullen Jenkins (wrist) will need to play in a cast for a while, the most significant injury – at least short term – appeared to be the sprained right ankle that knocked running back Ryan Grant from the game in the second quarter.

“We have five running backs and we have three that primarily do the running,” McCarthy said. “It’s the NFL and injuries are part of your journey. We had a number of guys go down. We’ll regroup and we’ll see where we are and be ready for Buffalo.”

Grant was injured with 6 minutes remaining in the second quarter when Eagles safety Quintin Mikell jumped on the back of Grant’s right leg as Mikell tried to tackle Grant from behind at the end of an 18-yard run.

Grant’s teammates feared the worst – they thought he tore up his knee – and immediately signaled for the trainers.

Grant hopped off the field on one foot for X-rays. He returned to the sideline wearing a walking boot on his right foot after halftime and could not play.
