Ryan Grant out for season

~A source tells MJS beat writer Tom Silverstein that Packers running back Ryan Grant has a torn ligament that holds two bones in his ankle. The injury will need surgery to repair the tear.

Ryan Grant's season ended on this wreckless tackle by Eagles DB Quintin Mikell. This is not how players are taught how to tackle, nor is the horse-collar or diving into players legs and backs with their hard helmets leading how players are instructed to tackle.

The source confirms that Grant will be placed on injured reserve and will miss the remainder of the season, as was first reported by Jay Glazer. Glazer adds that Grant has right leg injuries.

Grant injured his ankle in the second quarter of Sunday’s season-opening victory over Philadelphia and did not return.

Silverstein adds, “Packers RB Grant’s injury reminiscent of Dorsey Levens’ in 1998. Levens’ was able to return eight weeks later. Grant won’t return this season,” on his twitter page.

Other reports confirm that Grant is out.

The Packers initially thought that Grant would only certainly miss next week’s game against Buffalo while the running back underwent tests Monday.

At his Monday news conference, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said, “It’s a significant injury to the ankle and the ligament involved in the ankle.”

No one from the Packers has officially commented yet; today is an off-day of practice for the team.

We are reporting this story now and will have more later.
