Packers’ Desmond Bishop gets a chance to prove himself

~Green Bay — It didn’t take Green Bay linebacker Desmond Bishop long to update his playing résumé four games into this season after another good training camp.

“I want to say we’ve had four games . . . and I’ve played probably about four snaps,” said Bishop. “Maybe.”

Four snaps. One tackle. For the few plays when he did get on the field last week against Detroit, Bishop was “like a kid in a candy shop.”

It’s been a long wait. There is no one on the Green Bay roster more eager to get on the field. 

"I've been waiting for this for three years and a couple of games. I'm definitely eager. I love to play. I am really eager to play. I do have something to prove. I have a lot to prove to myself and most importantly to my teammates to be reliable and to go out there and have an impact."

 The circumstances aren’t ideal, of course. The Packers are without starting inside linebacker Nick Barnett and Brandon Chillar for at least a week with wrist and shoulder injuries.

In Bishop, 26, the Packers have an experienced and eager fourth-year player who was so tired of waiting and so frustrated as a backup again in training camp he was open to the idea of being traded.

But that never happened and he never made a big deal about it. And he’s not looking back now.

“That was my mind-set; it was in the back of my mind,” Bishop said Friday after the Packers completed practice. “But at the end of the day I was a Packer. We take the field, I’m a Packer and going against whoever the enemy is.
